Bike Nights in Belding

Bike Night is at Short Stop Motorcycle Parts & Accessories in Belding every Thursday night at 6 p.m.

Motorists who prefer fun of the two-wheeled variety will want to take advantage of the new Bike Night activities at Short Stop Motorcycle Parts & Accessories. Located at 240 Covered Village Mall in Belding, the store has been offering the Bike Nights every Thursday since their grand opening in early July. From this point on, however, Bike Night will be held on Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m.

According to store co-owner, Craig Gill, the move to Fridays is an effort to accommodate customer requests. “We just opened our store July 2 and have been doing bike nights every week,” Gill said. “But it turns out there are a lot of bike events going on all week long and our customers have said it would be great if we could do them on Friday; that they would be able to attend then. We’re hoping we’ll have a better showing.”

At present, Bike Night at Short Stop brings in an average of 15 riders per week, but Gill says that number is steadily growing as word of the event gets out.

“So far, it’s been OK,” Gill said. “It hasn’t been real busy as bike nights go, but people are still learning we’re here and the word’s spreading around.”

Gill and his business partner, Levi Herroon, anticipate the event will get bigger with each passing week. The two started the event as a “social thing,” with the intent of letting “bike-minded” people get together every week for bike-oriented activities, a cook-out, and any other activities they can come up with.

“At present, we’re looking at arranging a ride,” Gill said. “We’d probably just do a ride and go a short distance.”

Gill adds that the store will probably host the event each week as long as the warm weather holds, possibly going as late as November.

Short Stop caters not only to those in need of motorcycle parts, but fans of snowmobiles, dirt bikes and and all-terrain vehicles as well.

“Basically, we opened the storefront to accommodate most people interested in the recreational world as far as their everyday parts needs go,” Gill said. “We’re building our inventory daily. Our goal is to inventory oils, oil filters, spark plugs; all the basic needs. We can usually fill any special orders in one to two days.”

Short Stop is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
