What have you done for a good cause lately? Signed up to give blood (Jan. 16 at Greenville Community Church) and signing up as a bone marrow donor for the first time in my life (Baldwin Heights Elementary School in Greenville, Dec. 11). My thoughts and hope go to Bree Town in her battle with cancer. I’m “Bree-lieving” in her, thus, I’m donating!

What do you look forward to most with the Thanksgiving holiday? Being home in St. Ignace with my family. All of my immediate family and their kids will be home for a holiday for the first time in a long while. Looking forward to finally getting that family photo.

• Wrapping up theme ideas for 2014 feature sections
• Researching history of Greenville’s Phelps Hotel (email me if you have photos or stories on it!)

What have you done for a good cause lately? Well this question really put me in my place and made me question my character. Truth is, I probably haven’t done nearly enough. I will say, however, in the short time I’ve been here in Greenville, I’ve noticed this community is a very giving one. Maybe it will rub off on me.

What do you look forward to most with the Thanksgiving holiday? I enjoy Thanksgiving, but it’s not really a holiday I look forward to weeks in advance. I guess I am excited to have more face time with family, including an always entertaining dinner with my wife’s family. We have a big gathering with cousins and all, so it’s always a blast. Other than that, is it Christmas yet?

In the works:
• Filling my belly with turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes
• I finally have a time set up to talk with the Greenville grad working to promote economic growth in Africa
• Working on a story about two residents donating time and effort to turning old blankets into kennel pads for animal shelters

Title: Features writer, Reality Check columnist

What have you done for a good cause lately? If I tell you, it ruins everything. I have a deal going with God. He did me a favor once, many years ago, with the understanding that I would do something for Him on an ongoing basis, but never tell anyone what that “something” is. I’m guessing I’m not the only person in the world locked into such an arrangement. I don’t mind, though, it turns out being a decent human being is actually its own reward.

What do you look forward to most with the Thanksgiving holiday? No girlfriend this holiday season. My grown kids are going to their mom’s house. I will be alone. Why must you torture me with such personal questions? Have you no heart? Actually, they’re “net-casting” (or whatever you call it) a “Mystery Science Theater 3000″ marathon starting at noon. My plan is to make chicken (turkey’s too big for one), eat chicken and watch MST 3K all day. I’m sure it’ll be more fun than it sounds.

In the works:
• Covering Stanton City Commission meeting
• Writing my Reality Check column, probably on the topic of how annoyed I am by people who ask me questions like, “What do you look forward to most with the Thanksgiving holiday?”
• Rolling several copies of my column into a tight cylinder and hitting my features editor, “Scoop” Schlehuber over the head with it. I will also practice saying “bah” and “humbug” in preparation for the inevitable Christmas questions

What have you done for a good cause lately? I have to admit, it’s been a long time since I’ve done anything for what you would consider to be a “good cause.” But on a personal level, I recently played a duet on trumpet with my brother during my sister’s wedding, and the opportunity to add to her special day, providing her with a memory that will hopefully last a lifetime … well, it’s something where I’m very glad I was able to take the time to arrange a piece of music to dedicate toward she and her husband.

What do you look forward to most with the Thanksgiving holiday? When I was young, it was large family gathering — grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins — some who I may not have seen since the previous Thanksgiving, all coming together. Fast forward to present day, however, and those large gatherings are much more difficult to bring to fruition. So, as of now? I’d say I look forward to relaxing after a nice meal and watching a day full of NFL football.

In the works:
• Legislative Update, Nov. 25, 1 p.m., Montcalm Community College
• Story on MCC faculty members who have traveled abroad to teach in Haiti

What do you look forward to most with the Thanksgiving holiday? It’s traditionally a very lazy family day of football, food and naps. … after I run an 8-mile race in the morning, of course.
