Belding Band Follies show combines comedy with musical performances
BELDING — From hilarious Saturday Night Live parodies to heart-touching solo singing performances, the traditional Band Follies show at Belding High School is set to entertain once again this year with a variety of comedic sketches and musical performances.
Members of the Belding music department, from the high school band to the vocal pops ensemble, will perform tonight and Friday, putting on a show featuring nearly 50 acts by the students.
From unique solo performances of hit songs such as “Let it Go” from the Disney movie “Frozen” to swift group performances such as that by the Belding High School Winter Guard, there’s plenty of music and dance throughout the evening.
And for those looking for laughs, acts such as “Backstreet Boys vs. Spice Girls” and a performance of “A Little Dance” toward the conclusion of the show will not disappoint.
“People are going to get their money’s worth,” said Belding High School senior Giovanni Delgado, 18. “This is a tradition that goes way back. I can remember watching this for the first time when I was in seventh grade and I realized that I would be doing this in a couple years.”
Giovanni said a lot of hard work has gone into this year’s show and he’s hoping for a good crowd for each performance.
“Overall, it’s a great performance all around,” he said. “People can expect a great show with some great singing and funny skits.”
Director of bands Laura Hyler said the audience can expect a “wide variety” of performances from the students this year.
“People with laugh, have a good time and enjoy quality music,” she said. “It’a all student-run. All of the skits, the stage crew, sound crew, light crew, this is the most self-sufficient run group. The kids do it all. It’s an amazing fundraiser for the band.”
