Smyrna Summer Celebration is Saturday
SMYRNA — No town or village is complete without its own celebratory festival, and Smyrna is no exception.
The small community is ready to once again welcome visitors for a day of fun-filled events.
The annual Smyrna Summer Celebration will get underway Saturday with an offering of activities throughout the day for families and friends to enjoy.
The celebration is also the main fundraising event for the Smyrna Social Club, which uses the funds to help renovate the historic Maccabee Hall located on the corner of Whites Bridge Road and 6 Mile Road.
“The members of the Smyrna Social Club hope to use this opportunity not only to celebrate our community but also to continue to raise funds for the upkeep and maintenance of the historic Maccabee Hall,” said Laura Staats of the Smyrna Social Club. “We hope to see you at the Smyrna Summer Celebration. You could plan to spend the whole day there.”
Events this year include a pancake breakfast, auto show, farmers market, craft sale and a hot dog and brat lunch.
Club member Maryann Reeves said the celebration will be a great opportunity for kids to spend a Saturday outdoors with fun games planned throughout the day.
“We’re going to have animal balloon hats and animals being made out of balloons for the children,” she said. “It’s a chance for people to walk around, buy some food, and enjoy the events throughout the day. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous, so we are excited.”
Reeves said the social club is currently working to paint Maccabee Hall, which was built in 1902, as well as fill several holes located throughout the building.
